The first ship carrying Ukrainian wheat to be exported under a U.N.-brokered deal arrived in Istanbul on Sunday, the Joint Coordination Centre based in the Turkish city, said.

The Belize-flagged vessel is the first to carry wheat from Ukraine through the Black Sea since Russia's invasion. The Sormovsky was loaded with 3,050 mt of wheat and had left Ukraine's port of Chornomorsk on Friday.

Ukraine’s 2022 wheat harvest is 91% complete at 17.4 million tonnes despite hostilities in eastern and southern regions, grain traders union UGA said on Friday.

The union said farmers had threshed 4.3 million hectares of wheat with an average yield of 4.0 tonnes per hectare.

The union’s statement said farmers had harvested a total of 25.7 million tonnes of grains and oilseeds so far.

That included 5.3 million tonnes of barley and 3 million tonnes of rapeseed, harvested from 98% of the sown area.

Ukraine, a major global grain grower and exporter, harvested a record 86 million tonnes of grain in 2021 including 42.1 million tonnes of corn and 32.2 million tonnes of wheat.

India has no plans to import wheat as it has ample stocks to meet the domestic requirements, the Department of Food & Public Distribution on Sunday clarified after a media report said the country was likely to start importing the staple foodgrain.

“There is no such plan to import wheat into India. The country has sufficient stocks to meet our domestic requirements and FCI [Food Corporation of India] has enough stock for public distribution,” the department said on Twitter responding to the news item.

The Saudi Grains Organization paid SR60.9 million ($16.2 million) to 104 local farmers following the procurement of 34,489 tons of wheat, said a SAGO statement

The organization allocates a certain quantity of wheat to be purchased by local farmers every season. During the current wheat season, SAGO spent SR654 million to purchase local produce.

It is part of the government’s initiative to ensure food security and support local farmers.

Chicago soybean futures turned higher on Friday, as traders questioned a surprisingly large record-crop forecast and focused instead on August weather as recent hot and dry days threaten key U.S. growing areas.

Soybean futures slid sharply after the U.S. Agriculture Department on Friday forecast U.S. soy farmers would glean a record harvest even larger than previously forecast.

While dry weather has hit soybean fields hard in some farms west of the Mississippi River, yields in top-producing states like Illinois, Indiana and Ohio would make up for any shortfalls, the monthly World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report said.

The world needs a big U.S. crop to replenish global stockpiles that have been pegged at a six-year low. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine disrupted exports of grain and vegetable oil and triggered worries about possible food shortages.

Argentina's corn harvest for the current 2021/2022 season is estimated to reach 52 million tonnes, reported Reuters, citing data released by the Buenos Aires Grains Exchange on Thursday, up about 6% from last week's 49 million tonne forecast.

Dry weather last week favoured the corn crop, the exchange said, while it also raised its calculation of the corn-planted area for the 2021/2022 season to 7.7 million hectares, from 7.3 million previously.

Argentina is a major global exporter of grains, including wheat and corn.

"The drop in grain moisture boosted the harvest in provinces like Chaco and Salta," the exchange said, adding that nearly all of the "suitable area" in the country, or 97.9%, had already been harvested.

For the upcoming 2022/2023 corn season, in which planting will begin in the coming weeks, the exchange forecasts an area of 7.5 million hectares. That would be smaller than the current season, due to a drop in the profitability of the crop and low soil moisture.

Indonesia has the potential to export corn on account of a production surplus reaching three million tons, State Logistics Board (Bulog) Commodity Provision Division Head Budi Cahyanto stated.

"Bulog is procuring the corn commodity directly from farmers, and Bulog will conduct corn exports soon," Cahyanto noted during the Forum Merdeka Barat 9 online seminar observed here Friday.
