Ukrainian farmers are looking for an alternative route to transport the thousands of tons of grain stock in the Odesa Port. While the Russian war on Ukraine continues, the Ukrainian people in the eastern villages do not leave the wheat fields despite the risk of attacks.

Farmers continue to do agricultural work in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions that were hit by Russian bombardments. They have difficulty in marketing their wheat in stocks from last year, and are getting ready for the new harvest season in 20 days.

Russia and Ukraine, major global grain exporters, last year had a share of around 30% of wheat exports globally.

Maksim Vorobyov, a 34-year-old farmer living in the village of Mykolaipillya, near the city of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region, has recently been the target of Russian bombardments.

India is no greenhorn as far as export bans or restrictions on primary commodities are concerned. The country has intervened before on several agricultural products, including wheat and onions.

But New Delhi’s most recent wheat decision received global attention due to the rise in wheat price from US$325 to US$450 per tonne after Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine. Increased shipments from India partially offset the supply shortage from Ukraine in April.

Australia is primed for a bumper winter crop season, according to Australian national commodity forecaster ABARES, which pointed to favorable weather supporting soil moisture and soaring prices for spurring wheat in its June crop report.

Winter crop production for 2022-23 is forecast to reach 50.9 million tonnes, the fourth highest on record. Yield prospects are forecast to be well above 10-year averages in New South Wales and Queensland and more modestly in other states.

Wheat production is forecast to increase 22% above 10-year averages to reach 30.3 million tonnes and production is forecast to reach 10.9 million tonnes, both the fourth largest on record.

An exceptionally early heatwave in France and Spain may further stress wheat crops after a dry spring though an expected easing in temperature and showers across the region this month should avert large crop losses, analysts and growers said.

Any dent to yields could cause concern in a market seeking to offset war disruption to Ukrainian supply, they said.

Most analysts have been anticipating lower wheat production in the European Union this year after record 2021 crops in Romania and Bulgaria and following a dry spring including in top producer France.

China's soybean imports from Brazil fell in May while shipments from the United States rose sharply, customs data showed on Monday, as high prices curbed demand for South American cargoes.

The world's top soybean buyer imported 7.79 million tonnes of the oilseed from Brazil in May, down from 9.23 million tonnes a year earlier, data from the General Administration of Customs showed.

Shipments from the United States in May came in at 1.73 million tonnes, up sharply from 244,431 tonnes a year earlier, according to customs data.

Chinese buyers turned to U.S. soybeans for better profits during the peak Brazilian soybean export season, as bad weather pushed up prices of the oilseed in the South American country.

Corn prices have already been near historic 2012 levels with tighter global supplies and uncertainty in major exporter Ukraine. Chicago corn futures CZ2 hit one-month highs Thursday on prospects for hot, dry U.S. weather lasting into next month.

The U.S. Climate Prediction Center on Thursday issued its initial July weather outlook, showing a good portion of the U.S. Corn Belt may be warmer and/or drier than normal. That is consistent with other longer-range forecasts into at least mid-July.
